Privacy Policy

SkillTesseract ("SkillTesseract", "we", "us", or "our") provides an AI-powered mock interview platform used by universities, colleges, and their students ("you"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices available to you.

By creating an account or using SkillTesseract, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

Account information. When you sign up or are invited by your institution, we collect your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. If you join through an institution, we also store your organization and role (student or institution admin).

Resume data. If you upload a resume, we extract and store its text content so it can be used to personalize interview questions.

Interview session data. We store metadata about each interview session (mode, schedule, status), the conversation transcript (your spoken or typed answers and the AI interviewer's responses), and the AI-generated feedback report.

Microphone, camera, and screen data. Interviews require microphone access, and depending on the mode, camera access, to capture your responses. Audio is streamed to our speech-to-text and AI voice providers to generate a transcript and spoken responses in real time. We do not create or store a video or audio recording file of your session; we retain the resulting text transcript and report instead.

Proctoring data. During an active interview, our proctoring system may record events such as loss of window focus/tab switching, copy/cut/paste attempts, right-click attempts, and exits from fullscreen mode. Each event is logged with its type, classification (warning or violation), and timestamp, and is associated with your interview session. Usage and log data. We automatically collect standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, device information, and request timestamps for security, rate-limiting, and troubleshooting purposes.

Cookies. We use a strictly necessary authentication cookie to keep you signed in. See our Cookie Policy for details.

• To create and maintain your account and authenticate you.
• To conduct AI-driven mock interviews and generate transcripts and feedback reports.
• To personalize interview questions based on your resume, when provided.
• To detect and record proctoring events and enforce interview integrity rules.
• To let institution admins invite students, assign interviews, and review student progress and completed session reports within their own organization.
• To send transactional emails (invitations, email verification, password reset).
• To maintain the security, integrity, and reliability of the platform, including rate-limiting and abuse prevention.

We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell your personal information.

Institution admins. If you belong to an institution account, that institution's admins can view your interview sessions, transcripts, reports, and proctoring summaries as part of their oversight of your interview preparation.

Service providers. We may employ third-party companies and individuals to facilitate the Service, to provide the Service on our behalf, and to perform services related to the Service, including without limitation, artificial intelligence processing for interview questions and feedback, speech-to-text and text-to-speech conversion, interactive AI avatar delivery, transactional email delivery, and database hosting and management.

These third parties are only provided the information necessary to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated to comply with this Policy by written agreement. Outside of these tasks, these third parties are prohibited from using the information for any other purpose.

We do not share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers.

We retain account data, interview transcripts, reports, and proctoring event records for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service to you and your institution. If your account or your institution's account is closed, we will delete or anonymize personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal, security, or dispute-resolution purposes.

Passwords are stored using one-way cryptographic hashing (bcrypt) and are never stored in plain text. Authentication uses an encrypted, HttpOnly session cookie. Access to admin functionality is restricted by role, and organization data is scoped so that institutions cannot see another institution's data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

• You may access and update certain account information from within the platform.
• You may request a copy of, correction to, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us at the email below, subject to any retention obligations your institution or applicable law may require.
• You may decline camera/microphone access, but doing so will prevent you from completing an interview.
• Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to object to or restrict certain processing.

SkillTesseract is intended for use by university and college students and staff and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Our infrastructure and service providers may process and store data in countries other than your own. By using SkillTesseract, you consent to the transfer of your information to these locations for the purposes described in this policy.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Material changes will be communicated where required by law.
